I was looking back at a few articles from 2002 when USD was said to be considering the move to DI. I'll let these 2 speak for the whole university, students and alumni:
Some students at USD feel that USD should stay in Division II.
"Don't go D-I," men's basketball player Steve Anderson said. "We'll dominate in the NCC forever."
"We can't compete," junior Landon Morse said. "What blue chip athlete would want to come to South Dakota when a place like Florida can offer so much more?"
One thinks they have ever dominated the NCC and that anyone would care if they did. The other has that typical inferiority complex. What a sorry state that university is in. I am glad we are leaving that attitude behind.
