Here is the story from the Aberdeen paper.

Aberdeen: 34 scholarship recipients in city

A total of 826 high school graduates in South Dakota, including 31 who go to Northern State University, have been awarded 2004 Opportunity Scholarships.

Each scholarship awards $5,000 over four years to graduates who complete the Regents Scholar requirements, maintain high academic standards and attend a college in South Dakota.

"The number of recipients was much higher than anticipated," Regents Executive Director Tad Perry said in a press release. "This is great news. By meeting all the requirements, students showed that they really took the scholarship opportunity seriously."

South Dakota State University led in scholarship recipients with 354. The University of South Dakota followed with 174. Augustana was third with 81, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology was fourth with 67 and Northern was fifth. Presentation College in Aberdeen has three scholarship recipients attending this year.

This is the first year the scholarship money has been awarded.
