Mansheim paces Jacks at home meet
Becka Mansheim turned in a third-place overall finish to lead the South Dakota State University women's cross country team at the Jackrabbit Open Friday afternoon.
Mansheim, a sophomore from Brookings, covered the 4,000-meter course in a time of 14 minutes, 46.9 seconds at Edgebrook Golf Course.
Former Jackrabbit standout Sheena Dauer, who was competing unattached, won the race in 14:27.6, followed by North Dakota State's Kinsey Coles in 14:34.5. No team scores were kept.
Two other Jackrabbits finished in the top half of the 16-runner field. Shannon Hattervig placed fifth in a time of 15:06.4 and Ashley Adams was eighth with a time of 15:20.6.
Other Jackrabbit competitors included: Kari Schaefer, ninth, 15:30.1; Megan Poppens, 11th, 15:46.0; Lisa Goeden, 14th, 17:42.5; Cortney Costello, 15th, 18:26.8, and Kate Boris, 16th, 20:28.0.
In the men’s 6,000-meter race, Eric Hansen was the top Jackrabbit finisher with a fifth-place time of 19:02.7.
Brad Lowery, competing unattached, won the race in 18:26.9. He was followed by a trio of North Dakota State runners: Chris Hagan, second, 18:49.6; Greg Liebl, third, 19:01.7, and Jake Januszewski, fourth, 19:02.1.
SDSU’s group of runners was tightly packed as Scott Roby, Joel Teachout and Ricky Furseth claimed spots seven through nine. Roby finished in a time of 19:12.8, while Teachout and Furseth had respective times of 19:17.8 and 19:18.8.
Clayton Lang and Chris Gruenhagen held down the 11th and 12th spots with times of 19:34.5 and 19:38.4, respectively, to finish in the upper half of the 28-runner field.
Rounding out the Jackrabbit effort were: Andrew Van Nurden, 15th, 20:00.9; Josh Klawitter, 18th, 20:26.1; Nathan Faith, 23rd, 21:14.7; Matthew Small, 21:33.3, and Zeke Hanson, 27th, 24:11.3.
Both the Jackrabbit men's and women's squads will close out their season Oct. 30 at the NCAA Division I Indepedent Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.
