Volleyball recap
The Jackrabbits finished their first season in Division I volleyball with a strong 22-12 record, taking five of six matches at last weekend's La Quinta Independent Championships. SDSU won 13 of its final 14 matches of the season, with the only loss being to La Quinta champ Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Brookings native Sarah Simet finished her career as the school's single-season leader in digs, getting her 605th in SDSU's final match against North Dakota State. Outside hitter Sarah Biggerstaff also etched her name farther into the record books, becoming the Jacks' all-time leader in block assists with 346. That total was just one better than fellow senior Kim Bostrom.
SDSU finished the season 84th in the Rich Kern Percentage Index, which mimics the Ratings Percentage Index that the NCAA uses to determine postseason teams. It is the Jackrabbits' highest showing this season in the poll.
"As I've had a couple days to reflect on the season, I think our team is in pretty good position," Coach Andrew Palileo said. "I'm proud of what we've done this year."
Palileo also added three outside hitters for next year: 6-foot Mackenzie Angner from Cincinnati, Ohio; 5-9 Danielle Norby from Windom, Minn.; and 6-1 Laura Slagter from Roseville, Minn. . . .
Way to go Jacks, Go State! ;D
