Wenig broke his foot and is done for the year. Nagy talked up M. Casey from Rosebud. Says he takes his style of coaching really well and has a lot of potential. Looking for leadership from the seniors and Andy as he's in his 3rd year. Said he would like to redshirt all the freshman but can't. Sounds like Gilbert and 1 other will be sitting out this year for sure.

Pretty much the usual stuff... It sounds like they are redshirting Freshman Andre Gilbert and Matt Cadwell. Loney looks good in the post. Mackenzie Casey continues to impress Nagy. Steve Holdren is going to be the workhorse on this team. We'll have a lot more to talk about after this weekend!! This will be an interesting team to watch. If we can get decent play from our Seniors we'll be OK.

              Re: Jack Report 11/16

After seeing the Jacks play this weekend it's going to be a long year. We have guys starting that in the past based on the Jacks talent level would have been buried deep on the bench. I'm glad we are redshirting Gilbert and Cadwell as they are going to be good players and would like to see them have an additional year to get stronger and more familiar with Nagy's system. I think this team would have struggled in the NCC. When you lose all the seniors we lost and Moeller/Jones the cupboard is going to be thin. It didn't help Landon Scott turned out to be a bust.

Coach Nagy has said they will be young, but he does not nor has he said they will be bad. I think the talent is there but without junior class for experience, its going to be a struggle for awhile. We just have to be patient.

                  Re: Jack Report 11/16

Its too bad the schedule is set up the way it is for this group of kids, the majority of the D1 games at the beginning when they are lacking experience and game time as a team, with some cupcake games during the middle and end of the season. I tend to agree with Jackguy, i don't know how this team would have done in the NCC, but Nagy's teams always perform well no matter what. The naysayers will have a field day if the basketball team has little success this year, even though they may have had little success in D2 as well. It will be the opposite effect that the football team had this year where many people expected them to get abused and they surprised a lot of fans.

One person we have that other teams don't.......Coach Nagy ;D

This years team is young and will struggle. But they will play hard and rebound (even if our center is 6'5&quot. That usually equals success, maybe not as much as in the past, but still success.

                      Re: Jack Report 11/16

There is no doubt we will play like hard as all Nagy teams do. I just think we have to be realistic about the talent level of this team. We lack quickness at the guard position and our starting center is 6'5. There is a reason we will see a Nagy team play more zone this year and that is to minimize the physical weaknesses we have. I think Holdren has a lot of potential and shows the toughness we need. I've heard Nagy comment that it's not the DI games he is concerned about the players being up for but rather the Mayville State's of the world when we return from a long DI roadtrip.

                        Re: Jack Report 11/16

I was optimistic based on past nagy teams but after listening in to coach nagy I am preparing myself for some hard times this year. I don't think it will be like UNC last year in basketball. But I originally thought we would win about 5 D1 games this year and all our d2 games for about 17 or 18 wins. Now I am thinking that may have been way too optimistic after hearing coach nagy. I hope I am wrong. Go Jacks!

I said this in another post, any DI win for this team should be celebrated. Take the 2 best players away from any team in the DII ranks and ask them to move up to DI and compete. Not going to happen. There could be a lot of bad losses for this team this year, I just hope Nagy can keep their heads up and focused on the future. I'll be more than happy with 15 wins this year.

jackmd- you are right on. Add those two guys to this squad and we could compete with a number of the DI teams on the schedule. Without them we are asking both upperclassman and young guys to do way more than they are capable of. I saw a good Colorado team last night get beat by Michigan 69-60. Colorado has some great athletes that will be difficult to counter. I wonder if we will look at bringing in some JUCO players for next year especially since we lack guards and a big center.
