    Jackrabbit women drop dual to UND

    The University of North Dakota won 13 of 16 events to defeat South Dakota State 165-114 in a women's swimming and diving dual Saturday at the Stanley J. Marshall HPER Center.

    The Jackrabbits dropped to 3-4 in duals this season with the loss.

    SDSU started off the meet strong, winning three of the first four events, including the opening 200-yard medley relay. The team of Mariah Pavlicek, Jane Tschetter, Chelsea Colborn and Heather Youngberg combined for a season-best time of 1 minute, 56.87 seconds en route to the victory.

    Colborn and Youngberg also earned individual victories for the Jackrabbits. Colborn, a freshman from Rochester, Minn., claimed the 1,000 freestyle in 12:01.68, with teammate Samantha Reilly taking second in 12:22.12.

    Youngberg touched out teammate Mariah Pavlicek for the victory in the 100 backstroke. A freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Youngberg clocked a winning time of 1:02.96, while Pavlicek turned in a second-place time of 1:03.08. Youngberg later placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.09 seconds.

    Pavlicek, a sophomore from Bettendorf, Iowa, added two more runner-up finishes as she placed second in the 200 backstroke, 2:19.00, and the 200 individual medley, 2:21.43.

    Kaye Strohbehn added a pair of second-place finishes in the freestyle events, posting times of 27.30 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 2:11.84 in the 200.

    Jane Tschetter added a runner-up time of 2:51.45 in the 200 breaststroke.

    Kate Stuckel was a triple-event winner for UND as she claimed the 200 butterfly (2:16.66), 100 butterfly (1:01.30) and the 200 individual medley (2:21.04).

    SDSU returns to action Friday (Dec. 10) at St. Cloud State (Minn.), in what will be the Jackrabbits' final meet before semester break. Action begins at 6 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall.

      UND defeats Jackrabbit men

      The South Dakota State University men's swimming and diving team dropped to 1-2 in duals after dropping a 178-104 decision to the University of North Dakota Saturday at the Stanley J. Marshall HPER Center Pool.

      UND claimed individual titles in 13 of the 16 events en route to the victory.

      Justin Manning paced the Jackrabbit men with a victory in the 200-yard butterfly and a pair of runner-up finishes. Manning, a freshman from Vermillion, clocked a winning time of 2:15.19 in the 200 fly, and posted runner-up times of 10:39.70 in the 1000 freestyle and 58.26 seconds in the 100 butterfly.

      Fellow freshman and teammate Ty Nordtvedt won the 100 fly in 56.68 seconds and added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle, 1:49.40.

      Senior Jake Berg was the third winner for SDSU, claiming the 50 freestyle in 22.49 seconds, while placing second in the 100 freestyle, 50.53 seconds.

      Freshman Brandon Maydew earned a pair of second-place finishes, clocking runner-up times of 23.14 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 1:02.74 in the 100 breaststroke.

      Other runner-up finishes were turned in by Adam Pick in the 100 backstroke, 58.94 seconds, and Will Erickson in the 200 backstroke, 2:12.65.

      The Jackrabbits close out the first half of the season Friday (Dec. 10) with a dual at St. Cloud State (Minn.). Competition begins at 6 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall.
