  • KWSN today - regarding the BSC

Someone please tell me more about what was said today.  I am curious to know the exact context and who said it.  Any info would be appreciated.

I sounds like it was Mick Holien and that Mike_H or Craig asked him about the BSC plans. Did he say if that would be part of the announcement on the 13th?

Mike asked him point blank how many schools and he said 12 (two Div) and went on to say that SDSU and NDSU were in.  Earlier Mike asked about UNC and he said they too were in.  It couldn't have been a much stronger statement. As far as when this is announced he didn't say other then to say that it wouldn't happen on the 13th.

Thank you!!!  I'm thrilled but still a little cautious.  Isn't this what we have been wanting to hear?  I would like to hear it from an official source, i.e. on Monday the 13th.  I imagine acceptance to the conference will be based on some stipulations.  I trust we can meet whatever requests they submit.

Here is the lastest official word that I am aware of:

"We're in the process of contacting each school to gather information and if expansion is still a possibility (following the December meeting), the Big Sky will be visiting the prospective schools at the beginning of 2005 and hope to have a final decision by March or April in the spring." Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton said.

Maybe more will be said Monday than this, like "We are definitely expanding and want a total of 12 teams."

I think we need to be a little careful about getting too excited about the comments from a broadcaster at Montana. Granted he has had some conversations with the Athletic Director at Montana who would be in the know but I think this is still far from a "done deal".

Good point. I would be a little leary of a guy who has been associated with the top program in the conference for 20 years. I would much rather put my faith in the speculation of experts that use fake names on a message board.

Mike, In any business it is best to be leary until the deal has been signed on the proverbial dotted line. I don't think that's being paranoid. I know sports_buff can help me with this one (you know with him being so adept at spotting analogies and proverbs), but I believe the saying goes "don't count your chickens until they hatch." Fact is, this radio announcer is not the decision maker and no matter what happens he will never be the decision maker. I am hopeful and feel confident the BSC will ask us to join, but will hold on taking it to the bank until told to do so by the powers that be at the BSC.

              Mike,

I would much rather put my faith in the presidents of the Big Sky schools. You know, the guys that actually vote for who would get in. :-/ I doubt the AD's know everything on the academic side of the possible additions to the Big Sky (something the presidents may consider).
