    Women swimmers split at St. Cloud State
    ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team split a pair of duals at a triangular Friday hosted by St. Cloud State.

    SDSU moved to 4-5 in duals after defeating Minnesota-Morris 152-57 and falling to St. Cloud State 153-68. St. Cloud State added 172-53 victory over Minnesota-Morris.

    The Jackrabbits started off the meet on a high note, winning the 200-yard medley relay as Samantha Reilly, Jane Tschetter, Kim Iverson and Kaye Strohbehn teamed for a time of 2 minutes, 5.13 seconds.

    Sophomore Mariah Pavlicek was the only other event winner for the Jackrabbits, clocking a time of 1:03.10 to win the 100 backstroke. Pavlicek also turned in a runner-up performance in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:19.70.

    Freshman Heather Youngberg turned in a pair of runner-up finishes, placing second in the 50 freestyle, 25.86 seconds, and the 100 freestyle, 55.74 seconds.

    Jane Tschetter added a season-best time of 1:14.81 to place third in the 100 breaststroke.

    SDSU is off from competition for more than a month, returning to action with a dual Jan. 15 at the University of North Dakota.

    SDSU men fall at St. Cloud State
    ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The South Dakota State University men's swimming and diving team closed out the first half of the season Friday with a 130-104 loss at St. Cloud State.

    The Jackrabbits, 1-3 in duals, won five events and established three season-best times.

    Senior Jake Berg led the SDSU effort by sweeping the freestyle sprints. Berg clocked a winning time of 22.99 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, then claimed the 100 freestyle in 50.38 seconds.

    A pair of freshmen also earned individual victories en route to establishing season-best times. Ty Nordtvedt, Cottage Grove, Minn., won the 200 individual medley in 2:06.49, and later added a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly, 56.93 seconds.

    Brandon Maydew, Sioux Falls, shaved one-tenth of a second off his season-best time in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1 minute, 2.63 seconds.

    The Jackrabbit 200 medley relay team of Adam Pick, Maydew, Nordtvedt and Berg opened the meet with a victory, posting a time of 1:42.86.

    Freshman Justin Manning, Vermillion, added a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle, 1:50.79, and clocked a season-best time of 5:03.38 in the 500 freestyle, while placing third.

    SDSU returns to competition Jan. 15 with a dual meet at the University of North Dakota, in Grand Forks.
