  • Time for me to move on

The shock of the news from Salt Lake City has worn off and it is time for me to move on.  After all we are still SDSU, South Dakota’s only D-I University.  I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason and I am sure good things will happen for our Jackrabbits.  As many of you know I have always thought that we are more of a Mid-Western state then a Western State.  We get far more recruits and students from Ill. and Indiana then we do from Idaho and Oregon.  Although the Missouri Valley or Horizon aren’t looking to add members today, who knows what the future will hold.  We have plenty of time for this all to shake out.  It is time for me to say good luck to both UNC and the Big  Sky and move on.

    Go State!  ;D

P.S. the Mid-Con has a much better Sagarin rating for basketball then the Big Sky.  Mid-Con is the 18th best conference and the Big Sky is # 30, and we have a home for football. Finally, the Mid-Con also has baseball and Women's softball.

89 Rabbit is right: Time to move on.

Re: The Big Sky: I was counting chickens before they were hatched. Looking back: nothing's changed...we're doing great in our first year and will just continue to look more attractive in the coming couple of years. The administration has been optimistic but always warned that it would take time.

I had the pleasure of watching (and pictures to prove it) Jackrabbit runners this past Fall, running beside the uniforms of Colorado, Stanford, Clemson, Nebraska, Tennessee, Georgetown, Iowa, Minnesota. Many of those uniforms were behind the SDSU colors. Like many SDSU alums, my interest in following the Jacks closely was re-ignited when I listened to the Southern football game, and witnessed the never-say-die finish in the North Dakota State Beef Bowl Battle. Fans at the University of Southern Cal found out we can play basketball...they should be concerned about coming out here next season.

    The list goes on.

This isn't going to get done in one season---but, I'm convinced it will get done. The right things WILL happen and that means the right conference will come knocking.

    Go Jacks!

Re: Time for me to move on

I agree with all that 89 and JD have said.

I think we have followed our plan except for finding a conference which Craig and Mike kind of dwelled on today during their show.

I think Craig and Mike forget that President Miller was in a catch 22 position. Conference member presidents would not talk to her or begin to consider SDSU unless they filed their reclassification papers. So what do you do? Stay D2 and build up funds like Mike suggested? That would be crazy too. Who would donate if you continued to be D2? In fact I would have quit donating if we had stayed D2. ;D

I think SDSUFAN is right: I predict that when the numbers are tallied July 1, 05, I think there will be a significant increase in donations including academic donations. That is due in part to the D-1 move.

On other threads, there has been some speculation that the NCAA may put a freeze on moves from D-II to D-I If we had stayed in D-II. That seems to be somewhat logical if the scholarships are dropped to 24...many schools will want to jump. I'm glad we already made the move.
