    UND sweeps Jackrabbit swimmers
    GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The South Dakota State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the second half of the season Saturday by dropping duals at the Unviersity of North Dakota.

    UND, which is ranked No. 1 in both the men's and women's NCAA Division II national polls, swept the meet by nearly identical scores. The UND women recorded a 139-108 victory over the Jackrabbits, while the men scored a 138-108 win over SDSU.

    SDSU drops to 4-6 in women's duals and 1-4 in men's duals.

    In women's competition, UND built a big lead by winning the first nine events and swam exhibition in the final few events. Lauren Mickelson led UND with victories inthe 1,650-yard freestyle, 18:07.44, and 100 freestyle, 54.86 seconds.

    Mariah Pavlicek paced the Jackrabbits with wins in the 200 backstroke, 2:20.33, and 200 individual medley, 2:21.04

    Other individual winners for SDSU included: Kim Iverson, 200 breaststroke, 2:50.44; Kaye Strohbehn, 500 freestyle, 6:00.52;Chelsea Colborn, 100 butterfly, 1:03.41, and Rachel Stenzel, 3-meter diving, 179.95.

    The Jackrabbit 200 freestyle relay team of Heather Youngberg, Kaye Strohbehn, Samantha Reilly and Jane Tschetter also won in a time of 1:50.65 to close out the meet.

    The men's meet mirrored the women's meet as UND dominated the first half.

    Adam Pick got the Jackrabbits started with a victory in the 200 backstroke, clocking a winning time of 2:13.17. Ty Nordtvedt followed with a pair of victories, winning the 100 butterfly in 57.89 seconds and the 200 individual medley 2:07.24.

    Also picking up wins for the Jackrabbit men were freshmen Brandon Maydew and Justin Manning. Maydew claimed the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.74, while Manning won the 500 freestyle in a season-best 5:02.97.

    SDSU's 200 freestyle relay team of Maydew, Hadleigh Tyler, Manning and Mitch Heusinkvelt closed out the meet with a winning time of 1:33.58.

    The Jackrabbits have the next week off before closing out home competition Jan. 28 against the University of South Dakota. Action begins at 6 p.m. at the Stanley J. Marshall HPER Center Pool.
