MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The South Dakota State University women's swimming team posted top-four finishes in three relays to pace the Jackrabbits at the two-day Minnesota Challenge.

The Jackrabbits were led by the second-place finish out of 11 teams by the 800-yard freestyle relay team. The team of Heather Youngberg, Kaye Strohbehn, Mariah Pavlicek and Chelsea Colborn clocked a season-best time of 8 minutes, 26.47 seconds, finishing .06 seconds off the school record.

SDSU closed out the first day of action on Friday with a fourth-place effort in the 400 medley relay. Pavlicek, Jane Tschetter, Colborn and Youngberg posted a season-best time of 4:16.72. The same foursome came back in Saturday’s first session to place fourth of out 20 teams in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.69.

Individually, Pavlicek turned in a pair of top-10 finishes in the backstroke events. In the 200, the sophomore from Bettendorf, Iowa, placed fifth in a season-best time of 2:17.71, while finishing ninth earlier in the day in the 100, 1:02.99. Youngberg followed in 10th place in the 100 backstroke, 1:03.05, and was eighth out of 39 competitors in the 100 freestyle, 56.25 seconds.

No team scores were kept in the meet held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

On the men’s side, SDSU turned in three fifth-place finishes in the relays, posting season bests in all three events.

The Jackrabbits opened the meet with a season best in the 200 freestyle relay as the team of Brandon Maydew, Wayne Schafer, Hadleigh Tyler and Jake Berg clocked a time of 1:30.54.

On Saturday, the Jackrabbits book-ended the first season with season bests in the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays.
