Jacks Soccer team finishes ranked 4th in the

The Jacks finished 4th in the ranks of new to the Division 1 programs for soccer. NDSU came in at 3 had same record as the Jacks but did win only game of year vs. Jacks.
I think with our recruiting class and this being a up and coming sport in area and with kids. The SDSU soccer programs looks good. I like to see state do more marketing of it, along with all the other sports. The Jacks’ lone Division I victory came against Western Illinois but every game was close and competitive. State had good first year and some of notable schools we played are:
-Wisconsin-Milwaukee
-Marquette
-Utah Valley State
-Creighton
-George Washington
-Western Illinois
-Long Beach State
-North Dakota State
-Southern Utah
-Northern Colorado
-Minnesota

2005 SDSU Women's Soccer Schedule Information arriving soon. If interested Notre Dame grabed NCAA Title over UCLA 2-1 and that is what the Jacks are playing for.

UC Davis Ranked First
The Aggies turned in a successful campaign in their first full year of Division 1 competition and earned the top ranking among eight First Year Programs in 2004 as Kennesaw State ranked second and was the only program new to the Division 1 ranks that finished with a winning record

Kennesaw State Nets Honors
Kennesaw State finished the season 12-4-1 and nabbed the two top honors from Soccer Buzz for First Year Programs as Laura Tucker was named Player of the Year for new Division 1 teams and Rob King was selected Coach of the Year. UC Davis and KSU led the All-National selections

NDSU beat the Jacks twice. The first game was an exhibition.

NDSU's higher ranking probably had to do with the head to head and NDSU's all-DI-except-for-one-team schedule, whereas SDSU played a lot more non-DI opponents.

I see that NDSU's sping soccer schedule is out, SDSU will be out soon. I guess the Jacks face the Bison on Apr 24 at the University of Minnesota Tournament. Iowa, Iowa State, and I asume UM will all be there. Tourny runs Apr 23/24.

Also SDSU will play @ Gophers Sept. 11, 2005 State lost to U of M last game of 2004 2-1.



We had a great recriuting class, should be fun year. SDSU womens teams have all done real well during our first year.

This is a old article from last fall. But with this being U of M's second-best non-conference mark in the history of the program I thought it was interesting. State played them tough, we have not had soccer program for very long.

Golden Gophers Defeat South Dakota State 2-1 for Third Straight Win

October 29, 2004 - The University of Minnesota soccer team (8-10-0) finished its 2004 season with a 2-1 victory against South Dakota State on Senior night at Elizabeth Lyle Stadium. With the Golden Gophers’ third consecutive victory under first-year head coach Mikki Denney Wright, the team finished with its most wins since the 2000 season.

The Golden Gophers dominated the first half, but managed to take just a 1-0 lead into intermission. Senior Marni Prall, a backup goalkeeper who got the start at forward, scored from 10 yards out off of a corner kick in the ninth minute for her first career goal. Minnesota held a 16-2 advantage in shot attempts, including a 5-0 edge in shots on goal through the first 45 minutes.

Minnesota added to its lead in the second half as sophomore Haley Lentsch scored from Becky Dellaria on a corner kick in the 54th minute. Dellaria’s kick sailed through the traffic in front of the net and Lentsch was five yards out to score her fifth goal of the season.

The Jackrabbits narrowed the lead to 2-1 after Minnesota was called for a pass back violation. SDSU’s Michelle Rahe quickly put the ball in play with a pass to Amy Goodrich. She fired a shot from 15 yards out that sailed over goalkeeper Molly Schneider in the far right corner of the goal in the 64th minute. That was as close as South Dakota State would get as Minnesota held on for the victory.

Schneider earned the win in goal for Minnesota with two saves in the contest. A transfer from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Schneider became the first Golden Gopher goalkeeper to play every minute of an entire season since Dana Larson in 1997.

“It was important for us to finish the season strong and I think we did that with three straight wins,” head coach Mikki Denney Wright. “The injuries this season were too much to overcome, but I’m proud of the way our kids battled until the end. It was a great night for our seniors. Their effort tonight and throughout the year will benefit the rest of our team during the upcoming offseason.”

The victory improved Minnesota’s record against non-conference opponents at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium to 10-0-1 in the last 11 contests. The Golden Gophers finished with a 6-2-0 record outside of the Big Ten, the second-best non-conference mark in the history of the program.
