SDSU announces 2005 soccer schedule
Seven home matches, including the first night games at Fishback Soccer Park, make up part of the 18-game schedule for the 2005 edition of the South Dakota State University women’s soccer season.
"The 2005 soccer schedule is a great example of the new and ever-rising standard that our athletic programs are striving towards," Jackrabbit head coach Lang Wedemeyer said.
Six of SDSU's seven home matches are scheduled against NCAA Division I opponents. The Jackrabbits will host Division II opponent Minnesota State, Mankato, in the Aug. 26 season opener in what will be the first night game at Fishback Soccer Park. SDSU closes out a weekend series Aug. 28 by hosting Creighton (Neb.) in an afternoon game.
The Jackrabbits' home slate also features games against Northern Iowa on Sept. 2, Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sept. 16, Montana on Oct. 14, Northern Colorado on Oct. 16 and an Oct. 20 matchup with Utah Valley State. All but the Northern Colorado game are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
Of SDSU's 11 road games, 10 will be against Division I opponents. The Jackrabbits will travel to Iowa State, Minnesota, Oregon and Oregon State in September, before playing Wyoming and Nevada at a tournament in Laramie, Wyo. Road matches in October are at Drake (Iowa), NAIA opponent College of St. Mary (Neb.), North Dakota State, Southeast Missouri State and Murray State (Ky.).
SDSU completed its inaugural season at the Division I level in 2004 with a 5-11-1 overall record while competing as an independent.
