      SDSU signs 11th soccer recruit
The list of women's soccer recruits at South Dakota State University has grown to 11 with the signing Wednesday of Sioux Falls standout Annie Pudenz to a national letter of intent.

A midfielder, Pudenz earned first-team all-state honors the last three seasons at Roosevelt High School after earning second-team recognition as a freshman. In 2003, she was honored as the South Dakota Player of the Year. At the club level, she has played with Great Plains Magic and Dakota Gold Inferno teams, the latter of which has won five state championships. Pudenz also has competed in volleyball, track and basketball in high school.

Ten prep standouts, including Ashley Elbers of Sioux Falls Washington, signed national letters of intent on Tuesday, the first day of the February signing period.

          Jackrabbits add junior college transfer

The list of South Dakota State University women's soccer signees has grown to 12 with the addition of California junior college transfer Erin Sakata.

Sakata, a midfielder, earned first-team all-CVC honors at Modesto Junior College in 2004. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.

In high school, Sakata was a four-year varsity letterwinner in soccer who earned first-team all-conference honors once, was an honorable mention selection two times and was an academic all-conference honoree four times. She also lettered in volleyball and was a member of the National Honor Society at Golden Valley High School in Merced, Calif.

SDSU announced the signing of 11 prep recruits in early February.

Coached by Lang Wedemeyer, SDSU finished its first season at the NCAA Division I level with a 5-11-1 overall record. The Jackrabbits are scheduled to open the 2005 season with a home match Aug. 26 against Minnesota State, Mankato, at Fishback Soccer Park.
