  • Utah Valley State - Baseball

Up next for the Jackrabbits are the Wolverines of Utah Valley State (12-29).  DH going on right now, and a DH tomorrow as well.  They are opening up their brand new ball park this weekend (they share it with the Orem Owlz an affiliate of the Angles).  According to their web site we should be able to listen to the games on the net, but I can't seem to get it to work.  Oh well.  :-/

Here is more on the win:

Torres, Geary Lead Jacks Past Utah Valley

OREM, UT - Francisco Torres picked up his first victory of the season, pitching a four-hitter as South Dakota State defeated Utah Valley State 7-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday night at Parkway Crossing Field.

Torres had a complete game with four walks and three strikeouts. UVSC scored its only run in the sixth after SDSU had opened a 5-0 lead.

Greg Geary gave Torres all the run support he needed by hitting two homers, a two-run shot in the first and a solo homer in the seventh. Geary now has eight home runs this season and 40 for his career.  .  .  .

Glad to see Torres pick up the win.  He has been doing a great job this year.  He has pitched against some of our best compition, and been on the short end of many of our 1 run loses.  Way to go Francisco!  8)

Go Jackrabbits beat the Wolverines!  ;D

Here is a quick story on UVS's new stadium.

OREM — With the first pitch thrown by a fan who won the opportunity at a scholarship auction, the new baseball stadium at Utah Valley State College was christened Friday evening at a game against South Dakota State University.

The Wolverines have already played eight games in the stadium, but ominous weather last month postponed the "grand opening" until Friday night's doubleheader.
"It's beautiful," UVSC assistant athletic marketing manager Bill Hoops said of the stadium. "It's (been) a long time coming, and we're grateful for all the supporters." . . .

Re: Utah Valley State - Baseball

The Jacks and the Wolverines split again. This time Utah Valley won the first game and SDSU took the second. Paul Fishback, a Jr. who is originally from Brookings and transfered from Colorado to SDSU, picked up the win in relief in game two.

            Game 1 Final

            Utah Valley St. 11 - SDSU 5

            Game 2 Final

            SDSU 12 - Utah Valley St. 9

The Jacks and the Wolverines split the 4 game series 2-2. Not a bad thing to split on the road.

            Go South Dakota State! ;D
