  • SDSUFAN is honored

On Saturday night, the SDSU Foundation held its annual donor recognition event. Lots of people.

During the evening, SDSUFAN was named a "Distinguished University Benefactor." To gain this distinction, a donor must give SDSU gifts totaling $50,000 to $99,999.

Thought the people on the board would like to know.

              Re: SDSUFAN is honored

Thanks Alum guy for mentioning this and sorry I did not get a chance to say hello. Must have been my big ego that got in the way.   I will no doubt have another chance to do that.

What most on this board dont know is that at the table that I sat was a couple from the Chicago area, who were complete strangers to me, but as the awards were handed out, I realized that that this couple has given 2 bucks to every one buck that I have given.
The better half of the couple is a early 1980's grad and only started her significant gifts in 2001. They are both very sucessfull in their work careers.

They also commented on how they enjoyed the opportunities to see SDSU BB teams in action being only an hour or two from their home in suburban Chicago.  I wanted to mention this because, I sense there are many more alums out there that are like this couple, and making the 20 million dollar mark to endowed scholarships will be reached in time.

I dont believe the SDSU Foundation is going to be as bold as the United Way in some communities and post a barometer that reflects their march to reaching a fund-raising goal.  I did have a chance to ask David Marquart, the SDSU Foundation Executive Director about the campaign and how it was going.  He told me SDSU has made the committment so far and maybe is ahead of schedule, but he said there are many balls in the air.  What that means is that there are people who are considering major gifts, but have not fully decided or maybe just want to be silent about the whole matter.  Its about your own balance sheet and what it reflects. Those who have good balance sheets know this and don't see the need to brag about it.  Those that do often brag about personal balance sheets are most likely hiding something.  Remember Kenneth Lay? Enough said. ;D I understand U of Missouri has an endowment in his name which they now wish they did not have. ;D
