Former U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle will deliver one of the two commencement addresses and receive an honorary doctorate during South Dakota State University's spring commencement exercises today. . . .

Daschle will receive the honorary doctor of public service degree and deliver the commencement address "Pioneers for a New Age." Graduating senior Laura Lynn Geraets also will deliver a commencement address.SDSU President Peggy Gordon Miller will confer degrees and present diplomas.

Graduation was an outstanding day today in the Rabbit Den. Aprroximately 1100 individuals joined the ranks of SDSU alums. About 900 of the new grads were present for the ceremonies. Frost was packed to the rafters and several others watched via closed circuit TV from Depuy Hall (the armory). The highlight was the opportunity to say thanks to Senator (now Doctor) Daschle for all he has done for SDSU and South Dakota. He received a spontaneous standing ovation when he was introduced.

It was fun to see Frost packed and I look forward to that happening much more frequently in the coming backetball season.
