  • Brad Lowery in Sports Illustrated

I just saw the May 23rd edition of SI and they have a piece on Brad in the "Faces in the Crowd" section. I know he is running in a big meet in the Twin Cities this weekend, so hopefully this won't be the last national exposure for him this spring.

A portion of the article at the link I provided in the prior post:

Other Midwest area runners to watch are Matt Groose, a University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh All-American now running for WRRT who has posted 3:42 in the 1500m; Brad Lowery, a senior at South Dakota State who has a best of 3:42.44; Ryan Kleimenhagen, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, with a 3:46.55 best; and Blake Boldon, a graduate of Southwest Missouri State with a best of 3:42.73. Most of these runners - Watson, Henkels, Groose, Lowery and Boldon along with Hunter Spencer (3:40.91 best) of the Indiana Invaders - ran the mile at the Drake Relays on April 30.

Lowery didn't run the mile at Drake .... he ran AND WON the 1500 at Drake (in addition to the 5,000m race which was the fastest 5k at Drake in 10 years).

If you're interested, there is consensus that if you add about 17+ seconds to a 1500m time, it'll give you an mile-time equivalent. Lowery's best of 3:42 works out to a sub-4 mile equivalent. School recordholder and current coach, Rod Dehaven's 3:40 is about a 3:57 mile.

Re: Brad Lowery in Sports Illustrated

Brad had some trouble at the Minneapolis meet. The field assembled for the 1500 was top-notch and Brad was running in second place with about 300 meters to go and he just didn't have it today. Sounds like he was going for the win and simple tied up. But, that's what makes Brad such a great runner with a great future: he doesn't run to finish second.

He's one of the best and will get better.
