What is intresting about this story is that Brian Kelly has been in Brookings, and Dakotronics is probably not some small company in an unknown state. I think he remembers his trip to Brookings   Coach Kelly came to CMU from Grand Valley State.  He brought his GVSU Lakers to Brookings a few years ago and got beat.

Also Josh Ranek had one of his best games in Grand Rapids the year before when SDSU defeated the Lakers.
That was one of my favorite games since I drove to Grand Rapids Mi from Nebraska, and had a devil of time finding the high staduim where the game was played.  GVSU is located in Allendale just out side of Grand Rapids, and their football staduim was under rennovations so GVSU move the games to a residental area of Grand Rapids which the average resident was not able to give you directions. Talk about being lost in the urban jungle, that it was indeed. ;D

The first half did not go well for SDSU, but the second half was a breakout performance and a win. It made that long ride worth expense and effort.

Brian Kelly btw is an excellent coach and attracted a ton of D1 transfers to GVSU and molded them into his D2 program. Whether he can do the same at CMU remains to be seen.
The subsequent success of coaching Grand Valley State to top finishes in D2 got him his job at CMU.
