Jacks receive team academic award
The South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team has been honored for its superior performance in the classroom by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America with the organization 's All-American Academic Team Award.
Coached by Brad Erickson, the Jackrabbits received the award for the first time after ranking 12th among NCAA Division I programs with a 3.42 cumulative team grade-point average during the 2004-05 academic year. Any team member who competed during either the fall or spring semester was included in the calculations.
In all, 39 Division I women's programs were honored with the superior rating by compiling a team GPA of 3.25 or higher. Gardner-Webb (N.C.) was the top team with a 3.61 team GPA, followed by Xavier (Ohio) at 3.59.
