The South Dakota State University volleyball team will open the 2005 season this weekend with four matches at the Oregon Kickoff Classic in Eugene, Ore.

The Jackrabbits, 22-12 a year ago, open the campaign Friday against Portland State (Ore.), 14-17 overall in 2004. Match time is set for 3 p.m. Pacific Time (5 p.m. Central Time) at McArthur Court. That match will be followed by SDSU taking on Gonzaga (Wash.), 4-25 overall last season, at 5 p.m. PT (7 p.m. Central).

Saturday, SDSU closes out the tournament with back-to-back matches against Eastern Washington at 4 p.m. PT (6 p.m. Central) and host Oregon at 7 p.m. PT (9 p.m. Central). Eastern Washington shared the Big Sky Conference regular season title in 2004 en route to a 20-10 season. Oregon finished the year 10-17 overall.

The Jackrabbits dropped their opener 3-0 to Portland State (Ore.), before rebounding with a 30-26, 30-27, 30-26 victory over Gonzaga.
It's gonna take a while before phrases like "victory over Gonzaga" get old.
