SDSU tops Drake in volleyball

AMES, Iowa -- A hot-hitting South Dakota State squad picked up its first victory at the Cyclone Classic, defeating Drake (Iowa) in four games Saturday morning at Hilton Coliseum.
With the 30-18, 23-30, 30-19, 30-25 victory, the Jackrabbits improved to 1-2 in the two-day tournament and 2-5 overall. Drake remained winless at 0-3 in tournament play and 0-5 overall.
Minette Ridenour paced the Jackrabbit offense with a match-high 22 kills. A junior from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ridenour hit .366 for the match (22 kills, 7 errrors in 41 attacks) and added a team-high 16 digs.
Kristina Martin tallied 16 kills, while middle hitters Amy Anderson and Emily Rooney each contributed eight kills. Kristie Klusaw handled the bulk of the setting duties, tallying 51 assists.
Freshman Justin Olsen added 14 digs for SDSU from her position in the back row.
Drake was led by Eve Johnson on the offensive end with 12 kills. Liz McNulty added 10 kills. Beth Kranske was credited with a match-high 18 digs.
For the match, SDSU out-hit the Bulldogs .331 to .125 and led in kills by a 65-46 count.
The Jackrabbits wrap up tournament play at 5 p.m. Saturday against Montana.
