    SDSU travels to Doublewood Inn Classic


    The South Dakota State University volleyball team resumes tournament action this weekend by playing three matches at the Doublewood Inn Classic in Fargo, N.D.

    The Jackrabbits, 2-6 overall, will open the tournament at 2 p.m. Friday against Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2-3 overall.

    SDSU concludes the classic with two matches Saturday. The Jackrabbits' first match of the day has been moved ahead a half hour. SDSU will now take on Sam Houston State at 10:30 a.m., followed by a matchup with host North Dakota State at 3 p.m.

    The Doublewood Inn Classic, which also features second-ranked Washington, will be played at the Bison Sports Arena on the NDSU campus.

    Jacks sweep Wisconsin-Green Bay

    FARGO, N.D. -- Freshman Laura Slagter recorded a season-high 13 kills to lead South Dakota State to a sweep of Wisconsin-Green Bay in both teams' first match at the Doublewood Inn Classic volleyball tournament Friday afternoon.

    Game scores were 30-23, 30-22 and 30-23 in favor of the Jackrabbits, who improved to 3-6 overall. UWGB dropped to 2-4 overall.

    Slagter, a 6-1 outside hitter from Roseville, Minn., hit .375 (13 kills, 4 errors in 24 attempts) as the Jackrabbits finished with a .330 to .150 advantage in team hitting percentage. Minette Ridenour contributed a solid all-around match with 12 kills, 10 digs, five blocks and four service aces.

    Kristina Martin posted nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage (9-1-16) for the Jackrabbits.

    SDSU matched its season high with nine services aces, while allowing just two by the Phoenix.

    Junior setter Kristie Klusaw ran the Jackrabbit offense with a match-high 39 assists.

    UWGB was led by Jackie Rosen with 11 kills. Liesl Tesch added 10 kills and Betty Slinger tallied 29 set assists.

    SDSU closes out play at the Doublewood Inn Classic with two matches Saturday. The Jackrabbits will square off against Sam Houston State (Texas) at 10:30 a.m., before meeting host North Dakota State at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Bison Sports Arena on the NDSU campus.

      FARGO, N.D. — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay volleyball went 1-1 on Friday on the first day of the Doublewood Inn Classic hosted by North Dakota State.

      In the first match, South Dakota State swept the Phoenix 30-23, 30-22, 30-23. UWGB allowed .330 hitting by SDSU while managing a .150 clip offensively.

      Senior Jackie Rosen led the Phoenix with 11 kills, and sophomore Liesl Tesch added 10 putaways.

      UWGB rebounded to defeat Sam Houston State 30-24, 30-20, 30-28. Rosen and Tesch again supplied the offense, with 18 and 13 kills, respectively. Freshman Abby Bergsma pitched in six blocks, and junior libero Sarah Rauen had 16 digs and four aces, both team-high totals.

      The Phoenix will face second-ranked Washington this afternoon before taking on North Dakota State tonight in the tournament finale.  .  .  .


      Hopefully we can beat both SHSU and NDSU today and finish this tourney undefeated. It's to bad that we don't get a shot at Washington, oh well.  Good luck Jackrabbits!

          SDSU wins again in Fargo
          FARGO, N.D. -- The South Dakota State University volleyball team recorded its second consecutive sweep at the Doublewood Inn Classic with a 30-19, 30-24, 30-23 victory over Sam Houston State (Texas) Saturday morning.

          Minette Ridenour posted her second double-double of the tournament with a match-high 16 kills to go along with 11 digs. Kristina Martin added 10 kills and a .562 hitting percentage (10 kills, 1 error in 16 attempts) for SDSU, which improved to 4-6 overall.

          Sam Houston State, 2-5 overall, had no answer for the Jackrabbit middle hitters, either, as the trio of Amy Anderson, Emily Rooney and Kathleen Hruska combined for 18 kills and a .516 hitting percentage. Anderson and Rooney each tallied eight kills, while Hruska was 2-for-2 on hitting attempts in limited action.

          As a team, SDSU out-hit the Bearkats .345 to .143.
          Jackrabbit setter Kristie Klusaw contributed a double-double with 48 assists and 10 digs. Samantha Pearson led the Jackrabbit defense with 12 digs as SDSU held a 52-37 advantage in digs.

          Sam Houston State received nine kills from Chrissy Engle and eight kills from Cynthia Yarotsky.

          The Jackrabbits close out tournament play this afternoon against host North Dakota State. Start time is set for 3 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena.

            Up next for the Jackrabbits is a meeting with rival NDSU. This is the first meeting between teams from NDSU and SDSU this season. The Bison volleyball team is off to a slow start and are still looking for thier first win.

              The Bison will still be looking for their first win as the Jacks win in four games. I'm getting a late start heading to Brooking today, hopefully their will still be a spot in the backyard for me.

                Jacks clobber the Bison 30-18 in game one, and 30-23 in game two.  The Jackrabbits are cruising in this match.  SDSU 2 - NDSU 0, game three is next, this one has sweep written all over it.   8)

                    The Jackrabbits, who improved to 5-6 overall, opened the day with a 30-19, 30-24, 30-23 victory over Sam Houston State (Texas) Saturday morning. Later in the day, SDSU swept host North Dakota State 30-18, 30-23, 30-23 to keep the Bison winless at 0-9.

                    Coupled with a win Friday over Wisconsin-Green Bay, SDSU out-hit its opponents .306 to .128 as it closed out a perfect weekend, including a .241 to .085 hitting advantage against NDSU.

                    Klusaw continued her strong play at the setter position with 39 assists, nine digs and five service aces to tie a career high. SDSU served 10 aces compared to just two by the Bison.

                    Pearson contributed 10 digs for SDSU.

                    NDSU was led offensively by Kim Hebl, who recorded eight kills. Bethany Boelter was credited with 25 assists, while Kelly Lopez tallied 10 digs.

                    The Jackrabbits return to the road for the Demon Deacon Invitational hosted by Wake Forest Sept. 16-17 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Due to many teams’ schedules being altered by Hurricane Katrina, a revised schedule will be announced Monday.
