Jackrabbit women shutout by Phoenix
BROOKINGS —Sarah Oligney scored a first-half goal and assisted on another as the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay defeated South Dakota State 3-0 Friday night at Fishback Soccer Park.
Stephanie Gross put the Phoenix on the board scoring off an assist from Oligney. The Jackrabbits looked to tie the game at 1-1, but Janel Brown’s penalty kick sailed high and the Jacks couldn’t close the deficit. Oligney closed out UWGB’s first-half scoring by netting a goal off an assist from Sarah Clayton.
UWGB’s Leah Larson put the game out of reach by scoring a goal in the 67th minute of the match.
Wisconsin-Green Bay held a 14-12 shot advantage for the match. South Dakota State junior goalkeeper Jenn Davis recorded three saves on the night, while Brooke Wikgren led the Phoenix with seven saves.
SDSU will travel to Oregon on Sept. 23 to take on the University of Oregon. Start time for the match against the Ducks is set for 9 p.m. (CT) at Pape Field in Eugene, Ore. The Jacks will then head north to Corvallis, Ore., on Sept. 25 to take on Oregon State University at Paul Lorenz Field at Patrick Wayne Valley Stadium. Start time for the match against the Beavers is set for 3 p.m. (CT).
