    SDSU sweeps cross country awards

South Dakota State University cross country runners Brad Lowery and Becka Mansheim have earned Division I Independent Runner of the Week for their performances at last weekend's Roy Griak Invitational in the Twin Cities.

Lowery, a senior from Pierre, placed ninth overall out of 225 Division I runners in the men's 8,000-meter race, finishing in a time of 24 minutes, 30 seconds. It marked the second time Lowery has won the weekly award; he also received the honor after winning the season-opening Dragon Open on Sept. 2.

Mansheim, a junior from Brookings, was the top Jackrabbit finisher at the Griak Invitational, placing 36th out of 287 runners in the women's 6,000-meter race. She clocked a time of 22:01.

Mansheim is the second Jackrabbit women's runner to win the weekly award, joining Shannon Hattervig, who received the award after winning the women's individual title at the Dragon Open.

The Jackrabbits return to action Saturday, hosting the SDSU Invitational. Competition begins at 10 a.m. at Edgebrook Golf Course.

Way to go Brad and Becka! We're proud of you!
