  • SDSU Invitational

    FROM THE JACKRABBIT ATHLETIC TICKER:

The South Dakota State University men's and women's cross country teams will host their lone home event of the season Saturday with the running of the SDSU Invitational.

Competition begins with the women's 5,000-meter race at 10 a.m. at Edgebrook Golf Course. The men's 8,000-meter race follows at 10:40 a.m. Division I teams scheduled to compete include SDSU, Iowa State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Drake, North Dakota State and Minnesota (women only). Several other regional schools will send runners to the meet.

Following a kids' fun run at 11:15 a.m., action concludes with girls' and boys' high school races.

    ----------------------------
Coach Dehaven has put together a great field for what should grow into a great D-1 cross country meet in our own backyard.

A great job by the men and women. It's fun to see the other D-1 schools in the region coming to Brookings on Friday to practice on the course, stay the night in Brookings, and then run on a near-perfect Saturday.

        Re: SDSU Invitational

Additional comments on the men's side: Iowa State's men's team canceled out at the last minute...they are pretty roughed up from the prior weekend. Nebraska's team, however, was intact. Some thought Drake was favored to win but the Jackrabbits clearly thought otherwise. The Jackrabbits didn't run freshman Zach Frolich...he's nursing some sore legs from his outstanding performance at the U of MN's Griak invite last weekend. USD didn't run two of its top five runners in the men's race.
