    ATHENS, Ga. -- The South Dakota State women’s equestrian team dropped a pair of duals Friday during the opening day of competition at the Big Eight English Tournament.
    The Jackrabbits, seeded seventh in the tournament, dropped their opener 344-261 to host Georgia. SDSU's Allison Carie was the high-point rider in the dual as she tallied a score of 76 in the equitation over fences portion of the dual.
    SDSU was later defeated in consolation action by Oklahoma State 384-289.

    ATHENS, Ga. -- South Dakota State rider Kelsey Likness placed fourth overall in the Western reining event during women's equestrian competition Saturday at the Big Eight English Tournament.

    A sophomore from Watertown, Likness lost to Brenna Buris of Baylor (Texas) in a ride-off during semifinal competition. Both riders finished tied at 72.5 after their first rides before Buris won, 71-67

    In the third-place competition, Likness dropped a 75-72 decision to Sarah Meier of Georgia.

    SDSU returns to competition Oct. 23 by hosting an exhibition meet at the Swiftel Center in Brookings.

Katie Morris was next for the Jackrabbits with a score of 72.

      In the equitation on the flat competition, Carie and Kaylee DeVries each posted scores of 38.

      SDSU was later defeated in consolation action by Oklahoma State, 384-289. Morris led Jackrabbit riders in equitation over fences with a score of 67, while DeVries improved to a score of 69 in the equitation on the flat competition.

      The tournament concludes Saturday.
