Weber State sweeps Jackrabbits
OGDEN, Utah -- Weber State earned a hard-fought victory in Game 1 and cruised the rest of the way in sweeping South Dakota State in college volleyball action Monday night.
Game scores were 30-28, 30-20 and 30-20 in favor of the Wildcats, who improved to 11-16 overall. SDSU dropped to 13-15 overall.
Chelsea Bair led a balanced Weber State offensive attack with 13 kills and added 11 digs. Brittney Bisaillon came off the bench to contribute 12 kills and a .667 hitting percentage (12 kills, 0 errors in 18 attacks). Leah Burmeister and Kolbie Murphey tallied 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Setter Shelby Walford was credited with a match-high 48 assists.
For the Jackrabbits, Minette Ridenour moved closer to becoming the 10th player in SDSU volleyball history to reach 1,000 career kills with her team-high 12 kills. She now stands in 10th place with 991 kills.
Kristina Martin added 11 kills in a losing effort.
Kristie Klusaw notched 37 set assists, with Samantha Pearson contributing a match-high 16 digs from her libero position.
SDSU will compete in the Division I Independent Volleyball Championships Thursday through Saturday in Greeley, Colo. The Jackrabbits open the tournament against Providence (R.I.) at 1 p.m. Mountain Time (2 p.m. Central) on Thursday. The match will be played at the University of Northern Colorado Recreation Center.
