Daschle papers headed for SDSU

South Dakota State University will be the home for former Sen. Tom Daschle's official papers.
The more than 1,500 boxes will become part of the university's Archives and Special Collections. Daschle is a 1969 graduate of SDSU.
The collection will include letters, photographs, official papers and campaign memorabilia. The heralded scrapbooks compiled through the years by his mother, Betty Daschle of Aberdeen, also will be part of the collection.
The documents will not be available to the public for at least three years, says archivist James Borchert. It will take that long to get them ready.
He says additional staff members have been hired to handle the collection.
The items cover Daschle's years of public service from 1978, when he was elected 1st District congressman, through 2004, when he was defeated for a fourth U.S. Senate term.
Some personal items also will be part of the collection. . . .
