    Two Jacks earn all-independent honors

    Two South Dakota State University soccer players have been honored on the Division I All-Independent Soccer Team.

    Leading the way for the Jackrabbits was first-team selection Kellyn Farrell. Farrell, a freshman defender from Littleton, Colo., recorded two goal and two assists on the year from her defensive position. Farrell, who started all 18 games for the Jacks this fall, was third on the team in shots-on-goal with 10 and tied for the team lead in assists with two.

    Earning honorable mention all-independent honors was freshman Chelsea Goosen. Goosen a midfielder from Olathe, Kan., was second on the team in goals scored with four. She also recorded one game-winner on the year. Goosen had three straight games with a goal against Minnesota State, Mankato, Creighton and Northern Iowa. She finished the year with a .652 shots-on-goal percentage. Goosen ranked ninth overall in goals scored for Independents.

    The all-independent team was selected by coaches and sports information directors at the six member institutions.

    South Dakota State finished the 2005 season with a 5-12-1 record.
