    Kulesza, Christion lead SDSU women

    MINNEAPOLIS -- Jona Kulesza led the South Dakota State University women's indoor track and field team in the field events and Cameryn Christion paced the Jackrabbits in the running events Saturday at the Jack Johnson Minnesota Classic.

    A senior from Rapid City, Kulesza finished fifth in the triple jump with a top mark of 35 feet, 7 1/4 inches, and added a ninth-place effort in the long jump, 15-9. Teammate Taunja Disher placed one spot ahead of Kulesza in the long jump with a mark of 16-0 1/4.

    Christion turned in a pair of top-six performance in the sprints. The Parker native finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in a season-best time of 25.44 seconds, and was sixth in the finals of the 60-meter dash, 7.90 seconds.

    Erin Zempel tied for the top finish by a Jackrabbit woman on Saturday, clocking a season-best time of 8.92 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles.

    Becka Mansheim closed out SDSU's top-10 performances by placing ninth out of 37 competitors in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 10 mintues, 10.35 seconds.

    SDSU is scheduled to return to action Jan. 27 at the Cobber Pentathlon hosted by Concordia University in Moorhead, Minn.

    Schanaman places second at Minnesota

    MINNEAPOLIS -- Nick Schanaman turned in a runner-up performance in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday to lead the South Dakota State University men's indoor track and field team in competition at the Jack Johnson Minnesota Classic.

    A sophomore from Scottsbluff, Neb., Schanaman took second by clocking a season-best time of 8.40 seconds in the finals. Teammate Zach Wirth placed seventh with a time of 8.56 seconds and added a sixth-place effort in the 400-meter dash in 50.99 seconds.

    Matt Olsen also contributed a pair of top-10 finishes in the jumping events. A junior from Canton, Olsen placed sixth in the triple jump, 44 feet, 3 1/2 inches, and posted a top mark of 20 -9 3/4 in the long jump to finish seventh.

    Freshman Camden Helder rounded out SDSU's top-10 finishes with a ninth-place effort in the high jump with a season-best leap of 6-2 3/4.

    SDSU is scheduled to return to action Jan. 27 at the Cobber Pentathlon hosted by Concordia University in Moorhead, Minn.
