Jackrabbits defeat DWU in wrestling
BROOKINGS, S.D. — The South Dakota State University wrestling team won seven matches, including two by forfeit Saturday afternoon to defeat Dakota Wesleyan 32-16 at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.
The Jacks opened the match winning the first six weight classes. After a Brad Gregory victory at 165-pounds, junior Travis Gottschalk defeated Paul Wilson 11-1. Gottschalk scored six points in the third period to secure the victory.
Cody Nehl, a Watauga native, made quick work of Andrew Schmaltz at 197-pounds, pinning Schmaltz in 1 minute, 45 seconds.
After a Jason Stripling victory at heavyweight, senior Chad Herrboldt closed out the scoring for the Jacks winning 7-6 over Spencer Novotny. Herrboldt used a riding time of 4 minutes, 22 seconds to record the win.
SDSU improved to 5-7 on the year with the win, while Dakota Wesleyan dropped to 2-13 in dual action.
South Dakota State will take on the Air Force Academy tonight at Frost Arena. The match is set for 7 p.m. and will mark Alumni Night for the Jacks.
