The Baseball team seems to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. With winter in Brookings lasting until July and being a transitional team with no conference, they're screwed. I count 11 home games and 30 some on the road.

Good news is the two sioux falls games with K. State at the end of the season, plus the Independate tourney is in SF. Nice to have those games later in the season.

Unfortunately the U of M game is 8 days earlier in SF on April 12th, hopefully the weather will cooperate this year.

          Baseball in S.F. again

Reggie Christiansen crafted a difficult schedule for his first season as SDSU's baseball coach a year ago.

This year, the Jackrabbits will continue that trend and host the Division I Independent Tournament in May at Sioux Falls Stadium.

"Everyone knows about South Dakota State going Division I, but the majority of the talk is about football and men's and women's basketball," Christiansen said. "I think this really gives us a unique opportunity to come down there and play this independent tournament."

The Jacks played Minnesota and Creighton last year in Sioux Falls. They will again play the Gophers at the Stadium for one game, as well as two games with Kansas State right before the tournament, which is scheduled for May 18-21.

Northern Colorado has hosted the event the past two years and will play in it again this year (the Big Sky Conference, which it will join next year, does not sponsor baseball). Other schools participating with SDSU are NDSU, Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne, New York Tech and Utah Valley State.

"We're excited about it, and the kids are excited," Christiansen said. "It should be a big deal."

          Go State! ;D
