AMES, Iowa -- South Dakota State sprinter Cameryn Christion lowered her own school-record time in the 200-meter dash during weekend competition at the Iowa State Classic.
A sophomore from Parker, Christion clocked a time of 25.16 seconds Friday, eclipsing the mark of 25.25 seconds set in 2005. Facing some of the strongest Division I competition in the nation, Christion finished 35th out of 130 runners. For Christion, it was her second school record in as many weeks as she set a new SDSU standard in the 400-meter dash, 57.01 seconds, Feb. 4 at the MSU Open in Mankato, Minn.
Jackrabbit distance runner Becka Mansheim turned in the highest performance by an SDSU competitor during the weekend, placing 12th in the mile run with a time of 4 minutes, 56.06 seconds. The Brookings native's time was two seconds off the school record set by Jodi Smith in 2000.
Krystie Ratzlaff added an upper-division finish in the mile run, placing 47th out of 96 runners in a time of 5:07.35, and Erin Zempel placed 28th out of 76 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles, 8.98 seconds.
In men's competition, Nick Schanman posted the Jackrabbits' best finish by tying for 27th place in the 60-meter hurdles, 8.23 seconds.
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to return to action next weekend at the Gopher Classic in Minneapolis. The men's meet is set for Friday, while the women's competition is slated for Saturday.
