  • Happy Birthday SDSU!

Today, SDSU celebrates its 125th birthday. Over 65,000 people have received degress from this place since opening its doors. Plus, research and extension have played important roles in the development of this state.

It's been a great 125th years but our future is so bright we gotta wear shades!

There’s a party in the works at South Dakota State University; however, it’s a little different than the average college party. For starters, it’s not limited to students, and it’s going to last the whole year.

This year, SDSU will celebrate its 125th anniversary. The celebration will start with a kick-off birthday party Tuesday, Feb. 21, which is the university’s actual birthday, said Dr. Carol J. Peterson, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs and chairwoman of the overall 125th planning committee.

It will be a campus-wide event running from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Volstorff Ballroom of The Union.

Jim Woster, alumni and business relations consultant with the SDSU Foundation, will emcee the event, and several people will speak, including University President Peggy Gordon Miller and Student Association President Ryan Brunner. A legislative proclamation also will be read. The SDSU Jazz Band will play, and the Women’s Concert Choir will sing “Yellow and Blue” and “Happy Birthday.” Birthday cake will be served, and a new 125th SDSU ice cream flavor that will be debuted on that day.

According to Peterson, the event is an internal birthday party for students and faculty.

Woohoo for cake and ice cream and classes cancelled from 4 til 6 tonight.[/font]

The campus celebration turned out very well with a very high student turnout thanks to the "release" of classes and the presence of free cake and ice cream. The new and expanded VBR was packed! ;D

BTW- The new ice cream flavor is called Campanile Crunch and will be available at the Dairy Bar throughout the year.
