Hey, all . . .

I've received approval from the Snookums to purchase a domain name to use for an SDSU fan site.

I need some input on which dot-com domain name to pick:

sdsujacksfans
rabbitfans
jackrabbitden
sdsufans
jacksfans
jackrabbitfans

are among the names still available.

I personally like sdsufans.com but want some input before pulling the trigger. (Snookums likes sdsufans . . . it's simple).

I like jacksfans or rabbitfans...it doesnt confuse us with San Diego State.

Then again it (sdsufans) might pull more to the site thinking they are going to a San Diego State site.

OK, here's the deal:

I went ahead and snagged sdsufans.com.

Other domain names can be pointed to the same site (thanks for the suggestions both here and via private messages.) Both existing domains can be transferred to my internet provider to point at the sdsufans.com site, and new domain names can also be acquired and pointed to the site.

Through my web hosting provider, Pair Networks, I can get domain names for 10 years for $99. That's a pretty good price, I think.

If you have a strong preference for some other domain name (they're all good!!!) you can p-message me and we can work out payment options (or, alternatively, you can convince my Snookums why we should pay for more domain names )

Now, all that's left is to build a page! I'll see what I can whip up this afternoon as a place-holder until I can do something more spiffy.

It'll be next week before I can put up a proper web site, but until then, enjoy the links I've got over there.

Any comments/suggestions/etc. on what the site should look like? Post them here! I'll have a bit of time this week to work on the site.

Right now I'm leaning toward using the same software that I'm running on my medary.com blog site. You can wander over there, or look at the software's home page (geeklog.net) if you want to take a peek.

Something similar to bisonville.com is one of the options. Basically it can go any way that we, the SDSU fans, want it to go.

My plan is to just link to this existing bulletin board. I have the technical capability to run a board at the sdsufans.com site itself, but as long as Tony is content hosting the board at diaafootball.com, I don't see any reason to re-invent the wheel and put up a competing board.

But, it's all open for your good ideas. Let me know . . .

sdsufans.com will be weird for the next couple of days as I get the software installed and configured. So don't be surprised by anything you see at that web address . . .

Update:

I've got the Geeklog software installed, so when you go to sdsufans.com you'll see more bells and whistles.

I've posted the first article (basically the same links that were on the quick-and-dirty page).

Don't get too attached to the current look and feel--it'll have to change when I upgrade to the current version of the software.

New Update:

I've got the software upgraded, and while I haven't tested out everything in the new version, it looks like it's pretty much ready to go.

Still not quite sure about content. That's where y'all come in.

I'm thinking that maybe game reports, commentary (yes, even negative commentary), and other long-form articles from the Jackrabbit Nation that don't quite fit into the bulletin-board format here at diaafootball.com is where we're headed.

I'm also planning to move my Conference Map Project maps over from my Medary.com site (which is really more of a politics/current events site than a sports site). This should help to drive up traffic at SDSUFans.com from fans who otherwise wouldn't have any reason to care about SDSU athletics.

I'll probably clean up the SDSUFans.com logo and create a small line of merchandise through CafePress, so you'll be able to soon proudly wear your SDSUFans.com t-shirt, use your SDSUFans.com coffee mug, and do similar capitalistic consumerist society things.

I'm open to suggestions, but I'm much, much more open to you folks creating and posting content to the site.

Come on in, the water (at least on the surface) seems to be fine!
