Ten for Tuesday: One rejection Alford may regret

    Feb. 28, 2006

    By Gregg Doyel
    CBS SportsLine.com Senior Writer

You want gossip, dirt, dish. You want anything you can get your hands on concerning the upcoming coaching movement sure to be triggered by powerhouse programs like Indiana, Missouri and Cincinnati. You're so predictable.  .  .  .

    9. Idaho State thinking small: The good ol' boy network is alive and well at Idaho State, where AD Paul Bubb already has pushed out Doug Oliver and is considering bringing in one of his long-ago cronies from Macomb, Ill: Matt Margenthaler, the coach at Division II Minnesota State. Word of warning to Margenthaler or whoever takes this job: Sources all over college basketball say Bubb's no peach.

    10. Final flurry: Remember Memphis assistant Tony Barbee, a monster recruiter and Indianapolis native, if jobs open at Ball State or Indiana State. ... The pecking order at Missouri is Dana Altman, Rick Majerus and then Plan C. ... The NCAA is looking into the Chicago State athletic department three years after finding major violations by the women's basketball program. Two Mid-Continent men's basketball teams told SportsLine.com they've been advised to find non-conference replacements for 2006-07 in case Chicago State gets a department-wide death penalty, which would be the first since SMU football in 1987.

    Go State!  ;D

    Re: Interesting stuff

OK, I am going to guess that I titled this thing wrong as I thought this was very interesting news that may effect our efforts to get into the Mid-Con, but no one has really read this thread so I am going to edit the title.

    Go State!  ;D

If my memory serves me correctly the head coach in question is Cheryl Littlejohn the former head coach from Minnesota and she was fired for breaking NCAA rules in Minnesota as well.

Is it relevant in that Chic St may get kicked out of the Mid-Con? Brain's running a little slow of late. Having a 3 week old baby waking me up every 3 hours on a good night seems to have an adverse affect on my attentiveness and comprehension skills. Who knew?

I would suspect that the Mid-Con won't be pleased if Chicago State gets the death penalty. This is not the only issue that the Mid-Con has with CSU.  Texas Pan American got kicked out of the Sun Belt Conference for NCAA rules violations so I think it is possible.

Over on the UMKC board they are openly speculating if this is an "entre for South Dakota St. & North Dakota St".

OK, having re-read the Chicago State stuff five or six times, then going to some of the other Mid-Con boards . . .

Yeah, I'd have to say it's interesting. It wouldn't be inconceivable that the Mid-Con may find themselves in the market for a new member school or two.

Apparently the Chicago Defender isn't in the rumor loop:
New attitude for Chicago State men’s and women’s hoop teams

                  by Larry Gross, Chicago Defender
                  March 3, 2006

Sometimes, the success of a college sports program can't always be measured in wins and losses. Sometimes, that success can be measured by attitude.

Such is the case at Chicago State University where the men's and women's basketball teams are starting to turn things around with a positive attitude.

"It's a new day at Chicago State," men's head coach Kevin Jones told the Defender. "Teams we play are no longer are playing us expecting to get an easy win. Now we're the ones that come into games expecting to win."
                  . . .

The future is indeed bright for Chicago State basketball. Next season they will play in the new Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center on campus that is nearing completion,

The first regular season game at the new facility will be against the University of Michigan.

"Being able to play in such a great facility is great," Jones continued. "It will also be a great recruiting tool in helping us attract some of the mother-lode of high school basketball talent that is in this area."
There's either nothing to the original Sportsline report, or there's going to be a lot of really, really shocked people in Chicago.
