Jackrabbit baseball team travels to Nebraska

The SDSU baseball team will resume action Friday, when it travels to Nebraska for the start of a four-game series.

Schedule changes announced Tuesday morning now have first pitch Friday set for 12:05 p.m. in Lincoln. The nine-inning game will be followed by a seven-inning game. Saturday, the teams will play a single, nine-inning game at 12:05 p.m., with the final game between the Jacks and Cornhuskers set for 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

Three games of the series are scheduled to be broadcast on KBRK 1430 AM and online.

We'll get to see just how far the baseball program has come along.

Jacks drop the first game 10-0 and the second 3-0.

Jacks baseball will have to take some lumps early in the year, they have some young pitching I believe and certainly have not had adequate practicing conditions. Maybe with global warming and all South Dakota will see some earlier springs.

That has got to be hard to lose 2 games of that magnitude this early in the season. I only hope that they will be able to make them up somewhere along the line. Probably not with Nebraska, but maybe we can get some home games later in the spring with some smaller schools. Boy would it be nice to get rid of this snow.

The Jacks (2-10) have added a pair of midweek games in April at Bob Shelden Field to fill out the schedule. SDSU will host Sioux Falls April 5 in Brookings, and play Dakota Wesleyan April 11.

The silver lining is that we will get a couple of home games out of the fiasco with the weather. The joys of northern baseball.
