SDSU announces 2006 volleyball schedule
Two home tournaments and 12 total home matches highlight the 2006 schedule for the South Dakota State University volleyball team.
The Jackrabbits will open the season by hosting the Jackrabbit Kickoff Tournament Aug. 25-26 at Frost Arena. SDSU is scheduled to play four matches in the two-day event, taking on North Dakota State, Weber State (Utah), Gonzaga (Wash.) and Washington State.
SDSU returns to Frost Arena for the Jackrabbit Invitational Sept. 15-16 with matches against New Mexico State, UMKC and Lamar (Texas).
Other home matches are scheduled against Creighton (Neb.) on Sept. 19 and versus Drake (Iowa) on Oct. 17. The remainder of the home slate will be against fellow Division I independents Utah Valley State on Oct. 13, Texas-Pan American on Oct. 20 and North Dakota State in the home finale on Nov. 4.
The Jackrabbits also will travel to tournaments hosted by Wisconsin (Sept. 1-2), IPFW (Sept. 22-23) and Long Island University (N.Y.) (Sept. 29-30). SDSU is scheduled to conclude the regular season by competing in the Division I Independent Tournament Nov. 10-11 in Fargo, N.D.
SDSU, coached by Andrew Palileo, finished the 2005 season with a 16-19 overalll record. The Jackrabbits will be eligible for an NCAA Division I postseason berth for the first time during the 2006 season.
