  • NDSU - Baseball

The Bison make the trip to Brookings for a four game series starting Friday. It would be nice to take all 4 from NDSU as that would put us just one game under .500 when we go to the Metrodome next week to take on the Gophers. I would usually say that this is very doable since the Bison are struggling again this season and we took all 6 games from them last year. However, the Bison did beat Iowa this week so the Jackrabbits better take it one game at a time. I am heading up to Brookings this weekend and will be out at Bob Shelden on Saturday. Hope to see some of you out there backing the Jacks.

    Go SDSU!

Best to take it only one game at a time, the Bison have improved over the year. With that said I believe that a sweep or 3 of 4 would be great for the program recruiting wise. I wonder when we will be looking at the Mid-Con for membership either as an affiliate or when we join with all sports.

Don't get the cart ahead of the horse, Jack15, although the Mid-Con would be a nice fit as we offer all sports that they have except football, wrestling, and equestrian.

I'll be heading out for the games on Saturday as well. Saturday is alumni day for the baseball team. Last year we had about 40 alums there, this year looks to have a pretty good turnout as well. It's just too bad we'll be watching at Bob Sheldon instead of Erv Huether field. :'(

I miss Erv Huether Field as well, it was just a great location and a good college field.

Jacks hop off to good start with a 14-12 come from behind win in game one. Mintgen(sp), with a three run homer followed by a towering solo shot from Fisher cap the comeback from 5 runs down. Continued good luck tomorrow.

Made a nice comeback to send game into extra innings, but lost by a run in the 10th. Let's get 3 out of 4 on Sunday.

                    Re: NDSU - Baseball

Had a chance to get out to catch the last 5-6 innings of the game this afternoon. Jacks win 15-3. Pretty decent crowd on a great day to watch baseball. Bob Sheldon is a great field to watch Bball even if it is off campus...I would suggest to put our Athletic Dollars into that field and keep it as the home of the jackrabbits. If we can add a practice facilty on campus (preferrably with an indoor football/baseball/softball practice area attached to the east side of Couglin Alumni) we would be good. Just my .02.

BTW, the boys looked good today, hitting NDSU pitching like it was a red headed step child. We have a pretty young lineup and if they keep progressing they will be darn good in a few years. Either that, or NDSU is just bad...which could be. I listened to Coach Christiansen after the game on KBRK and he was sorry about only having one weekend home series this year, but did promise about 4-5 next spring. That is good news...and a conference spot would only add to that.

Well, it is time to go to Fargo and just like the last time we played, the Bison beat another Big 10 school this time NDSU beat the Gophers (last time they took one from Iowa) of course that didn't stop us from taking 3 of 4.

Jacks, Bison continue baseball rivalry in Fargo
The South Dakota State baseball squad (20-22) will renew acquaintances with rival North Dakota State this weekend at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo.

The Jacks and Bison will play a single game Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday (nine-inning, then seven-inning) at noon, and the finale of the series Sunday at 1 p.m.

SDSU took three of four from the Bison two weekends ago in Brookings, and won all five games on the field a year ago.

All four games of this weekend's series can be heard live on 1430 KBRK in Brookings. The feed is also available online by clicking the "Broadcasts" link on the left side of the page, with Tyler Merriam calling the action.

Apo Strikes Out 12 As Jacks Rally To Beat Bison

FARGO, ND - South Dakota State scored its first six runs with two outs, then scored the last three on home runs as the Jackrabbits rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat North Dakota State 9-5 in baseball action Friday night.

Jackrabbit starter Robby Apo struggled early, then got tough shutting down the Bison on two hits over the last five innings. He struckout 12 including the side in the ninth inning posting his first complete game as he improved to 4-1 for the season. Apo is a junior from Eureka, Calif. . . . (read more)
