    Re: Doug Fullerton

is it possible that we as sdsu fans don't really care about getting into the big sky anymore. as long as the mid-con is an excellent option for expansion and is eyeing us. we should turn more focus on the mid-con now.

Thanks for the info. Will be interesting to hear what he says. I suspect there will be a lot of B.S. and no hard facts. He will say they are interested in expansion, give a redundant list of candidates, hem-and-haw, and we will know no more or less about what the BSC is going to do.

        Fulleton's comments:

Thinks 1-AA will become a viable option for some of the floundering/lower eschelon D-1 programs in the near future as expenses continue to increase.

Presidents want Fullerton to write report on issue of expansion involving schedules and cost of travel and report at Oct meeting.

Pressure to add members -ran into link problems here so It was hit and miss here. Very frustrating. Presidents told AD's that scheduling issues alone will not drive expansion. But Big Sky does want to expand but wants to find right institutions to find right need.

Thought SU's were great fit but distance is an issue and not just for travel - looking at breakup of WAC as an issue for keeping the league cohesive.

Spoke about uneasiness with possible changes in WAC, Mountain West and Big West and those conferences raiding some of the Big Sky schools and really leaving the conference short.

UND is still an option even considering they haven't declared yet. The type of University that the SU's and UND offer put them ahead of the pack as far as schools they are considering.

Culhane is taking emails - sorry missed the address.

Culhane's take is that SDSU and NDSU have no chance at the Big Sky because of distance/Port State, Sac State.

Mid Con is our best bet but he mentioned he thought it would be a year or two before that happens?

Actually, he said that he would "go out on a limb" and say that the State Universities would be in the Mid-Con in the next year or two.  That of course is not much of a limb since Commissioner Douple has said they want to have this thing put to bed by fall. However, I think Culhane did a very nice job with that interview. Well done.  Jeff asked some great questions, and Doug was Doug with his answers.

            Go State!
