    Baseball signs three more recruits

BROOKINGS, SD - Two high school standouts and one junior college transfer have signed national letters of intent, indicating they will enroll at South Dakota State University and compete on the diamond for the Jackrabbit baseball squad next spring.

    The latest three signees:
    - Blaine Linster, first baseman/outfielder, Rapid City, S.D (Rapid City Stevens).
    - Sam Pieczynski, pitcher/outfielder, Des Moines, Iowa (Dowling Catholc).
    - Craig Parry, third baseman, Colstrip, Mont. (Miles City Community College)

“We’re very excited about the four kids who have signed with us so far,” head coach Reggie Christiansen said. “Our coaching staff has worked hard to identify four future members of the baseball program. We expect all four to make considerable contributions early in their career.”  .  .  .  (read more)

.  .  .  Brunette commits: West De Pere catcher Michael Brunette has made a verbal commitment to play for NCAA Division 1 South Dakota State.

Brunette, who will receive a partial scholarship, also had strongly been considering a handful of other schools, including Division II Minnesota-Duluth.

"They have a better team and a better record, too," Brunette said of South Dakota.

The 6-foot-1 Brunette is hitting .533 in the Bay Conference with one home run and eight runs batted in.  .  .  .

He is #23, back row middle

WIAA Division 2 baseball: Phantoms mesh for run to state

      By Scott Venci
      svenci@greenbaypressgazette.com

They might be young, but the members of the West De Pere High School baseball team grew up in a hurry this season.

Despite having just four seniors on the team, and even after starting just 6-6, the Phantoms won 11 of their last 12 games to advance to the WIAA Division 2 state tournament. . . .

The Phantoms' veterans did their part, too.

Michael Brunette, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior catcher who will play at South Dakota State University next season, was one of the area's best players.

He led the team with four home runs, 26 RBIs and a .560 on-base percentage. He walked a team-high 23 times, and was intentionally walked a combined four times in the sectional semifinals against Luxemburg-Casco and the championship game against the Thunder. . . . (read more)

Baseball: One city, two high schools, two powerhouses

        By Chris Havel

On a gorgeous Saturday at summer's outset, it's baseball business as usual for De Pere's Dennis Riddle and West De Pere's Sean Gibbons.

Earlier in the week, the coaches led their teams to their second trips in three years to the WIAA state baseball tournaments. De Pere advanced to the Division 1 semifinals, and West De Pere reached the Division 2 title game before being eliminated. . . .

The athletes are reaping the rewards.

West De Pere's Jason Berken is a pitcher at Clemson, which is playing in the College World Series. De Pere's Adam Pasono is an outfielder at Xavier University in Cincinnati. West De Pere's Michael Brunette is going to catch at South Dakota State in the fall. . . . (read more)

Who is Phil Johnson?  :-?  I watched many of the games last season and I don't remember the name.  I also don't see him on our roster from last year. What does it say in the story? (I am not registered on their site)

Not very much.  One line.  May not have been on the rooster at all, but still a transfer from SDSU.

Also included in Neisius’ 19-man class is Mitchell native Phil Johnson, who is transferring to DWU from South Dakota State.
              Go Rabbits.

Is is always a good day to ride.
