    South Dakota State University volleyball player Kristie Klusaw has earned the first Division I Independent Setter of the Week award for the 2006 season.

    A senior from Bellevue, Neb., Klusaw earned Most Valuable Player honors as South Dakota State went 4-0 at the season-opening Jackrabbit Kickoff Tournament last weekend in Brookings. In 17 games, Klusaw averaged 13.47 assists, 1.24 digs and 0.41 blocks per game.

    Kristie Klusaw nets independent honor



    South Dakota State University volleyball player Kristie Klusaw has earned the first Division I Independent Setter of the Week award for the 2006 season.

    A senior from Bellevue, Neb., Klusaw earned Most Valuable Player honors as South Dakota State went 4-0 at the season-opening Jackrabbit Kickoff Tournament on Aug. 25-26. In 17 games, Klusaw averaged 13.47 assists, 1.24 digs and 0.41 blocks per game. She posted a double-double with 68 assists and 10 digs in a four-game victory over Washington State.

    With Klusaw running the offense, SDSU hit .252 as a team over the weekend. The Jackrabbits also defeated North Dakota State, Weber State (Utah) and Gonzaga (Wash.) in tournament play.

    The Jackrabbits are scheduled to play three matches at the Wisconsin Inntowner Invitational this weekend. SDSU will square off against Oregon State Friday, before meeting host Wisconsin and Oklahoma on Saturday.
