  • Cody Steen, Bengals and SDSU.

Interesting article I came across over the lunch hour today. From the Cincinnati Post. I don't think I know Cody Steen but there are references to Kevin Robling and Cody's days as a Bobcat. Its a quick read and I found it interesting. I suspect somone here knows Mr. Cody Steen.

Bengals have a prairie home companion

Column by The Post's Lonnie Wheeler

They would have thought nothing of an old red cattle trailer being pulled down Main Street on a Friday evening in August. It was a mite strange to see it filled with handsomely cleaned-up young people and a smiling blonde in a wedding gown, but that picture was completed by the "Just Married" sign on the side of the trailer. The curious part was the banner across the other side. Unless they knew Cody Steen and his peculiar predilection, there was nothing in the experience of the gentle folks of Brookings, South Dakota, to explain the large orange and black lettering that spelled out "Who Dey!"

"What does that mean?" asked the weathered locals, peering at each other quizzically.

It meant that the biggest Bengals fan of the Northern prairies - perhaps the only one, for that matter - had just gotten hitched.

We met Cody five years ago when he joined the family of his girlfriend, Betty Wey, for their annual Christmas visit to Cincinnati. The Weys had lived here for years and Betty played sports with our daughter and we hung out with her funky family and then they moved to South Dakota. When he was in grade school, young Steen, strange as it seems, developed an unusual fondness for the Bengals' gaudy helmets. There was an assistant coach at the local college, South Dakota State University, who knew this - it's a small town - and when it so happened that Jim McNally, Cincinnati's offensive line coach, was coming to SDSU to work out a Jackrabbit, the little guy was invited to drop by and watch. This was around 1990, before the Bengals went bad........

A nice story about Cody. I know the Steen family well and they are super people. We may well get to root with Cody as the Bengals could be legitimate SB contenders.

Cody Steen is the younger brother of Collin, who played college tootball  at Northern and is the General Manager of the SF Storm. Both are past Bobcats
