    Anderson leads Jacks against Drake


    DES MOINES, Iowa — The South Dakota State University women’s volleyball team cruised to a 30-23, 30-19, 30-17 victory over Drake University Friday night at the Knapp Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

    Junior Amy Anderson paced the Jackrabbit offense with 14 kills on 17 attempts. Anderson recorded a .706 hitting percentage (14-2-17) for the match. Kristina Martin, a junior from Hubertus, Wis., added 11 kills and one service ace on the night.

    Samantha Pearson led all players with 15 digs.

    Kristie Klusaw was credited with 32 set assists as SDSU out-hit the Bulldogs .326 to .051 for the match. The Jackrabbits hit .550 (12 kills, 1 error in 20 attempts) in Game 3.

    Eve Johnson led Drake, 2-6 overall, with 15 kills and eight digs.

    South Dakota State improved to 6-2 on the year with the win.

    SDSU returns to action Saturday with two matches at the Cyclone Classic in Ames, Iowa. Saturday's schedule consists of an 11 a.m. match with Valparaiso (Ind.), concluding with a 4 p.m. match with host Iowa State.

    It seems the SDSU VB program is well ahead of most mid-level DI teams at this point. Now, I don't expect them to be able to compete with the upper-half of the major conference teams, but I bet they would fair well against the middle and lower third of those conferences. Should really help with recruiting in the near future. Nice work by the coaches, staff, and current players. Certainly another source of pride for SDSU.
