Creighton Blue Jays Come to Town...

The Jackrabbit volleyball team will close out a four-match homestand Tuesday night, when it hosts Creighton (Neb.).

First serve is set for 7 p.m. at Frost Arena. Creighton enters the matchup with a 10-1 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference. SDSU is 9-4 overall and has gone 6-1 at home so far this season.

Free burgers before the game, with posters and an autograph party with the team. The volleyball action starts at 7. The team is good 9-4 with some tough losses. Come Cheer on the Jacks.

Jacks lose the first game 31 to 33. Good game though. We led 26 to 23 at one time.

Jacks come from being down 21-17 to win game 4, 30-25. They win the match 3-1. That is only the 2nd loss this year for Creighton, whose RPI was in the top 35. Go Big!, Go Blue!, Go JAKCS!!

Awesome win by the Jacks tonight. A crowd of six hundred with four hundred of them being students Blue and his boys deliver the goods. The new goal is to pack 1200 people in when we play north dakota state in November on the 4th

South Dakota State Upends Volleyball in Four


BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kristina Martin had 21 kills, nine digs and four aces to lead South Dakota State (10-4) past Creighton (10-2) in volleyball action on Tuesday night in Brookings, S.D. Scores of the match in favor of SDSU were 31-33, 30-24, 30-25, 30-25.

After failing to take advantage of a game point opportunity in game one, SDSU used late runs in games two and four to help ice its victory. Martin, honored before the game for recording her 1,000th career kill last weekend, proved unstoppable all night long for a CU defense that surrendered a season-high 68 kills. . . . (read more)

South Dakota State def. Creighton 31-33, 30-24, 30-25, 30-25 in Brookings – Kristina Martin pounded home 21 kills and four ace serves for the Jackrabbits.
Minette Ridenour added 17 kills, Amy Anderson 15 and Laura Slagter 12. Samantha Pearson was SDSU’s dig leader with 20 with Ridenour adding 13. Kristie Klusaw had 59 assists.
Kelly Goc led Creighton with 19 kills.

I'd say this was a "statement match" for the Jackrabbit vollyballers, defeating one of the top teams from the Valley. Very important for regional recruiting.

Way to go Jacks!! It looks like State has a really good women's volleyball team again this year. If you look at the top 25, the west coast and midwest make up the majority of the teams. Now that we have a conference and we are beating some of the bigger names in volleyball (Washington St., Oregon St. and now Creighton) it should help in recruiting. I think this can be another sport in which we can succeed at the D-1 level. It is also good to see a large turnout for a Tuesday night.
