    Swift striving for Jacks’ soccer

    PUBLISHED: September 26, 2006
The South Dakota State soccer team is playing better but hoping the evidence of that becomes easier to see in the coming weeks.
Natasha Swift, a freshman from Littleton, Colo., is one of the Jackrabbits working to make that happen.

The freshman had two shots on goal Sunday in a 1-0 loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Though the desired result wasn’t achieved, she maintains that progress is being made.

“We aren’t scoring a ton,” she said. “Obviously, you want to put a few in the back of the net. We’ve had our chances, now we have to start converting them.”

The Jacks (3-5-1) started off strong this year with a 3-0 win over Northern Iowa, but now have lost four straight games and are coming off two 1-0 losses in Wisconsin.

“We keep improving every game,” said Swift, who has a goal and 11 shots this year. “If we can continue pushing things in that direction, we’re going to have a much better end to our season.”

The Jacks are host to Northern Colorado on Friday and are at Montana on Sunday.

“We’ve had some ups and downs,” SDSU soccer coach Lang Wedemeyer said. “We’re just having a hard time scoring goals right now. We’re making progress, but the statistic that matters most is still eluding us.”
