SDSU sweeps cross country weekly honors
South Dakota State University cross country student-athletes Katie Tornberg and Zach Frohling have been selected this week's Division I Independent Cross Country Runners of the Week.
Tornberg, a senior from Harrisburg, finished 44th out of 288 competitors at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Sept. 23. She covered the 6,000-meter course at Les Bolstad Golf Course in 22 minutes, 28 seconds.
Tornberg is the second Jackrabbit woman to earn the award this season; Becka Mansheim earned the honor on Sept. 6.
Frohling, a sophomore from Britton, finished 90th out of 301 finishers at the Roy Griak Invitaitonal. Frohling clocked a time of 26:11 over 8,000 meters.
The Jackrabbits return to action Saturday, when they host the SDSU Classic at Edgebrook Golf Course. The women’s 5,000-meter race begins at 9:45 a.m., followed by the men’s 8,000-meter race at 10:15 a.m. A kids’ fun run will follow the college races, with high school boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity races completing the slate of events.
