    Cross Country hosts SDSU Classic

    DESCRIPTION:
    South Dakota State University hosts the SDSU Classic on Saturday September 30. Start time is scheduled for 10a.m.

    BROOKINGS, S.D. — Saturday will mark the second-ever Division I cross country meet in Brookings, as the South Dakota State men’s and women’s cross country squads will compete in the SDSU Classic at Edgebrook Golf Course.

    Minnesota’s women, along with Nebraska, Iowa State, Northern Iowa and North Dakota State will compete, along with regional Division II and Division III squads.

    The women’s 5,000-meter race begins at 9:45 a.m., followed by the men’s 8,000-meter race at 10:15 a.m. A kids’ fun run will follow the college races, with high school boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity races completing the slate of events.

    There will be some fine high school runners in this event. Hopefully some future jackrabbits!

      South Dakota State’s Becka Manshiem led all Jackrabbit runners Saturday at the 2nd Annual Jackrabbit Classic in Brookings, as SDSU finished third behind Minnesota and Nebraska.

      Manshiem, a senior from Brookings, placed fifth out of 111 runners, behind a foursome from Minnesota, with a time of 17:29.80. Katie Tornberg, a senior from Harrisburg, finished 15th in 18:12.30.

      The Golden Gophers ran away with the team title with four of the top five finishers. They were led by Emily Brown with a time of 17:08.7, which breaks the meet record of 17:12.1, set last year by Reebok Club Team runner Anne Schadle. Ladia Albertson-Junkans finished second with a time of 17:18.50, followed by Elizabeth Yetzer in 17:27.1 and Jamie Cheever in 17:27.7.

      Other runners scoring for the Jackrabbits included Krystie Ratzlaff, 23rd, 18:43.25; Claire Steinke, 26th, 18:51.15; Caitlin Berry, 29th, 18:57.8; Shannon Hattervig, 32nd, 19:12.35; and Amanda Kuchta, 33rd, 19:15.85.

      Other Jackrabbit finishers include Ashley Adams, 37th, 19:27.9; Kari Schaefer, 40th, 19:34.55; Nicole Davis, 46th, 19:49.15; Sarah Hanson, 48th, 19:56.8; Hiedi Quail, 57th, 20:14.9; Allison Mettler, 58th, 20:16.5; Danielle Burke, 60th, 20:20.75; and Whitney Johnson, 79th, 21:39.5.


      Congrats to Becka in her last home meet in her career.
