    SDSU wrestlers ready to contend
    Team is school's first to be eligible for postseason competition

    BROOKINGS - The South Dakota State wrestling program has lost some weight.

    Being ineligible for the postseason because of the school's transition to NCAA Division I was a heavy burden on the Jackrabbits, who finished in the top five at Division II nationals from 1994-2002 and had at least one individual gain All-American honors every year from 1976-2004.

    But the sun is shining now, just as it did through a wall of windows at the Performing Arts Center during SDSU's winter media day Wednesday.

    This season the wrestlers will become the school's first athletes to have postseason eligibility thanks to a waiver granted by the NCAA that cut its waiting time from four years to two. The wrestling team will compete in the Western Wrestling Conference. . . . (read more)
